On the occasion of World Maternal Mental Health Day, celebrated under the theme "Together for Health. Stand with Science," it is essential to remember that caring for the minds of mothers means protecting life itself. Behind the joy of pregnancy and childbirth, many women silently carry stress, anxiety, and even depression, realities that are common yet too often overlooked.
Maternal mental health refers to a woman’s emotional, psychological, and social well-being during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period — and it can be affected at any point. IRESCO (Institute for Research, Socioeconomic Development and Communication) calls on everyone to take action: teenage girls should feel free to express their emotions without fear; young mothers should understand that asking for help is a sign of strength; mothers should break taboos by supporting and listening to one another; and fathers have a crucial role to play by offering their presence, assistance, and comfort.
Recognizing these challenges means preventing their impact on the mother, the child, and the entire family. Raising awareness, listening, and providing support are essential actions for building a healthy and caring environment.
On this day, let us choose to speak up, to support, and to protect the mental health of mothers, because a supported mother means a stronger family and a better future for all.
